Fluorescent Lamp Electronic Ballasts Slide 6
NXP CFL controllers from the UBA2211 and UBA2027 family have over temperature protection. They will shutdown if the temperature inside the casing reaches a critical point. The CFL and TL controllers have protection against no ignition, either direct or via coil saturation protection. A discrete CFL ballast will blow its fusible resistor in the case of no ignition at the end of lamp life. The self-destruction of a fusible resistor can cause smoke detectors to give a false alarm. Coils are known to have a lower saturation level when warm. If a CFL lamp is switched ON then OFF and then back ON again, the coil might saturate as it still is around 110° C. As a result of the saturation protection feature, the coil does not have to be over dimensioned to deal with this situation. The NXP UBA2016 TL controller has a “lamp rectification” end of life protection.  This prevents overheating at the connectors where the tube light is in the fixture. This is needed for T5 or T4 types of tube lights as their diameter is smaller than a T8 which means there is less surface area to release the heat.
