CAT 1 devices are also perfect for many of the new applications in IoT. With the available bandwidth, many of the applications that pushed the limits of 3G are now in reach. CAT 1’s download speed is faster than most household’s internet bandwidth was just a few years ago. At the same time, because the top speed  is less than 10% of the high speed LTE categories, the technology in use is much less complex, resulting in lower cost hardware, and lower overall operating costs. As the constant barrage of cellular ads claim, the LTE network is only getting better and covers more and more of the potential IoT locations. Network longevity and coverage and simpler, lower cost designs make CAT 1 the right choice for many applications where WiFi and other local area networks could have been used in the past.
