LCD and OLED displays are prevalent in various applications spanning across a variety of industries. Although these displays can be used anywhere, there are a few applications that stand out more than others. Both LCD and OLED displays can be found in various transportation applications. Not only will the customer find them being used in the dashboard of cars, but they are both commonly used in the cockpits of airplanes, as well as bus ticket machines. Another common market for both LCDs and OLEDs, is security. A lot of older control panels have LCDs, whereas newer models have upgraded to OLEDs because of their high contrast, and wide viewing angles. Medical and military markets are another fitting example of where to find both types of displays. Newer equipment has been making the transition from LCDs to OLEDs due to the demand for a cleaner, smaller footprint and easier to read display. Due to their enhanced performance, OLEDs are starting to emerge more and more within the LCD market places. This is partly due to the ability of OLEDs to withstand more extreme environments and temperature ranges, and thus, be more versatile. OLEDs are also gaining increased popularity in the food and beverage, as well as handheld industries. Application examples include ice machines, food thermometers and sound level meters. Overall, OLEDs and LCDs share a few similarities and in turn, common market places and applications. All these similarities play well together, but there is no denying that OLEDs are a nice upgrade option to LCDs.
