The low output voltage capability of these devices makes them suitable for many of the newer applications that require low operating voltages to power FPGAs and also for logic cores and that have higher current requirements. All LDOs in the MCP172x and MCP182x families have low quiescent current that minimizes application power losses and heat generation. For the MCP172x and MCP1825, 1826 and 1827 devices, there is also a shutdown function that brings the operating current down to 0.1μA for extra power savings.
