Block diagrams to assist with the user’s designs are shown on this slide. The large illustration on the left is the functional diagram showing the names of each pin. On the right are examples of connecting the enable pin (EN) on the different versions of the part family. Figure one shows connecting the enable pin through a 33M resistor, which will result in a higher total system shutdown current, as current will bleed through the resistor, refer to the datasheet for more details. Figure 2 shows a connection of the MAX17221/3/5 versions to a push-pull microcontroller GPIO. This eliminates any current from the supply and reduces total system shutdown current to 0.5nA. Figure 3 shows a typical connection of the MAX17220/2/4 with a push-button switch, which minimizes the total system shutdown current, yet allows for a manual enable.
