Lumissil’s SE5120 touch key controller has several key features and benefits. It features high resolution sensing for improved touch or proximity detection compared to older technology. An optional active shield used around the touch key electrode will eliminate false activates caused by things like water droplets. Active proximity sensing can detect the presence of a hand up to 10 inches away and allows for the same IC to be used for both touch keys and proximity sensing. The capacitive sensing controllers also features automatic self calibration which will compensate the system tuning for long term changes in the environment and materials. Each key can have an individual calibration in case of any differences in baseline capacitance. Press and hold feature allows for buttons to be used for more than just on/off. For example, a press and hold can adjust the brightness of a light or the volume of a speaker. Lastly, the controllers boast of a power consumption under 10 µA when in a sleep mode that still monitors the touch keys. When a button press is detected, the controller can then wake up itself and the host controller for optimal power consumption.
