This should be selected for applications where the 2-way communication is needed. The MS Series is legacy and is being replaced by the MS2 Series. The MS2 offers the encoder and decoder in one part for a lower cost with the same functionality. It has a large 24-bit address and a smaller hardware footprint than the DS Series. This should be selected for applications where a greater degree of uniqueness is necessary or where the single button push addressing is desired. The DS Series should be selected as a replacement for Holtek products or because of the simplicity of its DIP switch addressing.
