LTC2974-Slide5

The LTC2974, a quad digital power supply manager equipped with all of the necessary functions to address the most demanding multi-rail systems, can turn on and off any power supply that is chosen, so long as it has a run or trim pin. A 4-channel sequencer allows synchronization of turning on or off supplies in any order based on timing delays, the signals of other supplies or simply the tracking of a master supply. High-speed comparators with programmable deglitch circuitry supervise the voltage level of each rail and take immediate action if a rail goes out of its specified limits. User-defined overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and undercurrent thresholds for each supply rail are saved in EEPROM, while an on-chip digital temperature sensor, along with four external temperature inputs, monitor temperature and alerts if over- or under-temperature user defined thresholds are exceeded. Margining and trimming each rail is extremely accurate over temperature, even at low voltages, using a digital servo loop that measures the rail voltage and continuously curtails any inaccuracies. An SMBus compliant hardware alert pin pulls low to notify of a fault, while the voltage, current and temperature faults are all logged to EEPROM. With all of this functionality, it is easy to see how the LTC2974, allows the designer to add digital power system management features to any power supply of choice and take the end application’s abilities to a whole new level.
