To optimize system performance, there is a trade-off between the effective resolution versus the response time. Shown here, the bit stream is processed twice – first in a 5.5 kHz filter to provide 11.5 bits for accurate measurements, and then it is processed through a wideband filter to detect excess current with a 5.5 µs response time. The OCD output is best-suited for short-circuit detection with a very fast 2.7 µs response time. Please read the LEM application note regarding downstream filter design for additional details.
