Universal Contact Slide 9
In summary, the ITT Universal Contact series is a dry circuit pressure contact system. Each contact is a single piece of material, most commonly Beryllium Copper, stamped and formed, then gold plated in critical areas such as the contact dome and the base area. Universal contacts are available in a range of free heights, from 1.3 mm to 4.6 mm tall, with deflection ranges from 0.6 mm to 1.5 mm. With .1 mm of deflection, the Universal Contact achieves a 0.3 N of force or greater, and as the deflection continues to the proper working height, deflection forces of approximately 0.7 N are achieved. Some typical applications for the universal contacts include hand-held communications, the medical, transportation, and military markets. The contacts can be used to replace other types of pressure contacts such as “pogo” pins and leave spring contacts, which are larger and have reliability issues. Examples of the types of connections possible with the universal contacts are antenna connections, grounding contacts, microphone and speaker connections, mechanical devices and battery contacts.
