XLR-Slide3

Phantom power is used in higher end, more sensitive, condenser microphones to charge the diaphragm plate (as opposed to dynamic microphones which do not need additional power to charge the diaphragm). Phantom power sends the correct power (+48V) to a condenser microphone via an XLR socket and cable. Plug in the condenser microphone, switch on the phantom power on the correct channel, and the microphone comes to life.
