VOUT to Ground Measurement Loop

It is recommended to measure ripple across a capacitor of interest on the PCB, such as the buck regulator output filter capacitor or load decoupling capacitor. To improve measurement accuracy, it is important to keep the VOUT to GND measurement loop as small as possible. A large measurement loop acts like an antenna, adding signals to the measurement which do not actually exist at the measurement point. Although it is common to see ripple measurements published at 20 MHz, which is bandwidth limited, the engineer recommends performing ripple measurements at the full bandwidth of the test equipment. It is important to note that the measurement bandwidth is dependent not only on the oscilloscope model, but also the scope probe and the vertical scale.
