EXCELON™ F-RAM extends Infineon’s serial I²C and SPI F-RAM products in terms of both features and performance, to meet the data-logging memory challenges of energy efficiency, high-performance, and high-reliability. EXCELON F-RAMs support densities from 1 Mbit to 16 Mbits and operating voltages at 1.8V and 3.0V. These F-RAMs support over 100-trillion read/write cycles of endurance and ensure instant non-volatility that allows writing to the F-RAM at Bus speeds. The EXCELON family has three different sub-variants that each offer unique value propositions. The first variant is the EXCELON LP (or low-power) F-RAM, which operates at speeds up to 50MHz SPI. These F-RAMs offers several low-power modes of operation. One of the defining features here is the inrush current control, which limits the surge current on system start to 2mA or less. This ensures lower power consumption. Typical applications that benefit from using the EXCELON LP F-RAM include medical implantable devices and battery-operated IoT devices. The second variant is the EXCELON Auto F-RAM. These are automotive AEC-Q100 qualified F-RAMs that are designed to offer high reliability. These F-RAMs can also support higher temperature operations for harsher environmental conditions, going up to +125°C or automotive-grade 1. EXCELON Auto F-RAMs are used as a data-logging memory in automotive event data recorders, ADAS camera systems and in battery management systems. The third variant is the EXCELON Ultra F-RAM, which is designed for high-performance. These are Quad SPI F-RAMs capable of read/write throughputs going up to 54 MB/s, equivalent to parallel asynchronous SRAMs with 35 ns access times. EXCELON Ultra F-RAMs are used in high-performance industrial automation applications like PLCs and CNC machines, and in enterprise server applications like RAID storage. To summarize, the EXCELON LP offers energy efficient operation, EXCELON Auto is designed for higher reliability, and EXCELON Ultra provides the high-performance variant.
