By following the steps outlined in this tutorial, the user will be able to set up the XBee modules and open a wireless chat session. Step 1 – check the contents of the XBee Wireless Connectivity kit. The kit should include all of the following: two XBee 802.15.4 radios, two XBee Grove Development Boards and two micro-USB cables. In addition, two computers will be needed (although it is possible to use just one), and Digi International’s XCTU software version 6.1.3 or later. XCTU is a free downloadable software application that makes it easy to set up, configure, and test XBee RF modules. This tool communicates through the serial interface of the XBee modules and facilitates the set up and test processes. Users can download a copy of Digi’s XCTU’s by going to http://www.digi.com/xctu.
