Designing a Smart E-Meter with F-RAM is quite simple. Shown here is a block diagram for F-RAMS, it is also important to know that F-RAM is used as RAM and ROM. Therefore it can be used for power usage data logging, diagnostic data logging, calibration data storage, factory default code storage, dynamic tariff data storage, and dynamic configuration code storage. F-RAM simplifies the design. It replaces multiple EEPROMs, reduces board capacitance and eliminates Wear Leveling. F-RAM comes in a variety of part options with densities from 4 kb to 2 Mb, Voltages from 2.0 V to 5.5 V, SPI interfaces at 10 to 40 Mhz., and I2C interfaces at 1.0 to 3.4 Mhz. It also comes in packages such as an SOIC8, EIAJ8, and TDFN8. Cypress F-RAM offers the customer a flexible and simple low-power nonvolatile memory solution.
