Shown on this slide are some additional useful terms. Bluetooth Low Energy, or Bluetooth Smart as it is branded, is emerging as the preferred wireless connectivity for IoT devices. Cypress offers a fully integrated small form factor module, called the EZ BLE PRoC module. PRoC stands for Programmable Radio on Chip, and provides a simple, easy to use way to add BLE. Within the Bluetooth standard, there is a specific capability that allows for one way transmission, such as a universal unique identifier or even data such as temperature. Devices that utilize this capability, are called Bluetooth Smart Beacons. These beacons typically interact with a software application on a smartphone for a unique response. Note that Bluetooth Smart products such as fitness bands, utilize the full capability of Bluetooth Smart, such as a two way communication.
