Rotary DIP switches contain multiple electrical contacts that are selected by rotating the shaft to several stop (detent) positions which are aligned with an alphanumeric character printed on the package. These stop positions generate a circuit change according to output code. This type of switch has some advantages over simple switches by permitting multiple choices that result in different electrical signals from the switch; versus a simple "on" or "off" position. The rotary DIP switches are mounted on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and can be used as a Panel Control or a PCBA Setting which is used to control the behavior of electronic devices.
