As mentioned before, not any BNC will do. A Telco grade BNC is a crucial to mitigate the risk and expense of a network failure. A DS-3 line carries a lot of conversations, up to 672. If one goes down, there are a lot of upset customers, not something any phone company wants. But, of even greater concern is the potential financial impact of a network failure. A major telephone company initiated a study finding that it can cost up to $150,000 to deal with the aftermath of a DS-3 line failure. The cost to trace, find and replace the BNC, plus the cost of downtime and fines can add up in a hurry. And, again, not all BNCs are alike. There are many companies that make BNCs, but a limited few have NEBS certification.
