Technology industry trends have followed a clear path. The Consumer Electronics explosion began in the 1990’s with the adoption of the Personal Computer. This evolved into a more mobile and user friendly interface for computers, combined with the cell phone explosion in the early 2000’s. This trend has continued, driving devices to be faster, more robust, “smarter”, able to store more, entertain more, be more secure, have better resolutions, stronger and lighter screens, with reception and connectivity in more and more places, no matter how remote. IoT will be the major driver within these mobile devices as the 2020 decade is entered. This will be facilitated by robust networking devices with the highest levels of connectivity possible and will include “cloud computing”, driven by the networks’ ability to handle “big data” in the form of storing everything from videos, movies, photos, and other records. Open source computing solutions, which are software solutions available for free to the public at large, will play a major role in the evolution of the networking platforms and how the data is managed and stored. The market is essentially limitless since the potential applications are limitless. There are no boundaries to what products and tools can be developed that will further enhance or further allow interconnectivity.
