The liquid thread sealing method presents problems when used to seal screw threads. First off, this method does not work well for sealing under the screw head. These sealants will seal the threads only and leakage may occur by way of the through-hole. Secondly, the liquid application procedure may include pre-cleaning or priming of the screw, followed by application and curing, which could be up to 24 hours. Further, workers must be trained to know exactly how to apply the sealant to the exact location with the precise quantity. The alternative is expensive sealant dispensing equipment, which needs to be operated and maintained properly. Even field servicing can be an issue: the fastener is often rendered unusable as it may have to be either heated, sheared or drilled out for removal before replacement. Correct application of the sealing liquid, and disposal are also a concern with excess liquid or unused product. None of these issues exist with APM Hexseal’s embedded, one-step, o-ring sealing system.
