DiffAmpCalc Overview Slide 8

The selection for a terminated or non-terminated topology is also provided in the topology menu box. If termination is needed, click the “Terminate” button, if terminate is selected but not needed click the box to remove the termination. Node voltages, feedback resistor values, noise and distortion are automatically recalculated and the oscilloscope displays are redrawn automatically to reflect the changes. Termination adds resistors RTP and RTN to the circuit to match the input resistance of the differential amplifier to the resistance of the source. In differential mode the input resistance of the amplifier is Rg in each leg. Termination resistor RTP (and RTN) in parallel with Rg matches source resistance Rs. In single ended topology the input resistance of the amplifier depends on the gain and the feedback and gain resistor values. Proper termination is iterative and done automatically. The DiffAmpCalc interprets the gain as the ratio of output voltage to open circuit source voltage. Gain and gain resistor values are held constant, feedback resistor and termination resistor values are automatically adjusted to match the gain.
