Image of Amphenol Advanced Sensors Type MA100 NTC Thermistor Series - Applications Continued

A voltage divider can be created by adding a fixed resistor in series with the Type MA100 thermistor, represented by the circuit on the left here. Now, there is a proportional voltage across both the thermistor and resistor. As the temperature changes and the resistance of the thermistor (THR) changes, the voltage change across the series resistor (RS) can be measured and converted to temperature. Improved resolution and noise immunity can be accomplished by using a Wheatstone bridge circuit, represented by the circuit on the right here. When the bridge is balanced the output voltage (VO) will be zero. When the bridge becomes unbalanced by a change in resistance of the thermistor, the variation in VO can be measured and converted to temperature.
