Inrush current limiters (ICL) are designed to protect the components of equipment from damaging levels of inrush current. The ICL works as a special type of NTC thermistor where, with a rise in temperature, the resistance will drop logarithmically. The ICL will first block the inrush current by offering a high resistance at turn on. As the current flows through the ICL, the resistance drops quickly which will functionally remove itself from the circuit.
