Designing for production is a classic problem – there could be the best product idea but if the product can not be manufactured, then it can not get to market. This is no different for IoT applications. Some considerations for assuring manufacturability for IoT applications are the following: Developers need to consider the components required for the application and that the specifications are not so tight that the manufacturing yield of the product is so low as to adversely affect product margin. As well, choosing quality sensors that are reliable for the nature of the application is key. As discussed earlier, if the IoT application will be deployed in such a way that having a human touch is difficult, then having highly reliable sensors will be a key consideration. When the IoT application is ready to be manufactured and a contract manufacturing house is being considered, one of the keys to an application success will be choosing the right manufacturing partner. Finding a partner that has RF and wireless skills will help ensure that the IoT application’s path to market is as smooth as possible.
