DC / DC µModule Regulator Family

Resembling surface mount ICs, Analog Devices' µModule regulators (LTM) are complete power solutions that include controllers, power MOSFETs, compensation circuits, and inductors in compact, thermally-enhanced footprints. Built with the industry's highest quality standards and rigorously tested, µModule family regulators dramatically reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to successfully design power solutions in highly reliable systems. Designing with this family of µModule POL solutions requires no knowledge in switchmode power supplies, greatly simplifying the task of a digital circuit designer. Despite their small size, these µModule DC/DC regulators are capable of converting a wide range of input supplies from 1.5 V to 60 V, supporting output voltages as low as 0.6 V with output currents from 200 mA to 15 A and higher. All products in the family are compatible with surface-mount reflow techniques and are RoHS-compliant. Select µModule products are offered with a military temperature grade rating for extreme operating environments from -55°C to +125°C.

Buck µModule Regulators

Analog Devices' step-down regulators are grouped in two input voltage ranges, one that supports input voltages of 5 V and below and the second that supports input voltages of 5 V and above.

Buck-Boost µModule Regulators

For situations where the input voltage may be above or below the desired output voltage as in battery powered applications, regulators from the buck-boost family of uModules are the best choice. All devices offer a wide input and output voltage operating range over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Another common feature is a burst or pulse skip mode for high efficiency under light loads that may be disabled for noise sensitive applications. The µModules are also synchronizable to external clocks to avoid any unwanted beat frequencies.

LED Drivers

The LTM8040 is a fixed-frequency, 1 A step-down, DC / DC µModule regulator designed to operate as a constant current source. Internal circuitry monitors the output current to provide accurate current regulation, which is ideal for driving high-current LEDs. High output current accuracy is maintained over a wide current range, from 35 mA to 1 A, allowing a wide dimming range over an output voltage range of 2.5 V to 13 V. Unique PWM circuitry allows a dimming range of 250:1, avoiding the color shift normally associated with LED current dimming. With its wide input range of 4 V to 36 V, the LTM8040 regulates a broad array of power sources, from 4-cell batteries and 5 V logic rails to unregulated wall transformers, lead acid batteries, and distributed power supplies. The LTM8040 is packaged in a thermally enhanced, compact (15 mm × 9 mm × 4.32 mm) molded land grid array (LGA) package suitable for automated assembly by standard surface mount equipment. The LTM8040 is Pb-free and RoHS-compliant.
