I'm sure I'm not alone in constantly getting grief from my family (and/or friends) when I don't call enough. But I honestly don't remember to do it. So then I have to explain why it didn't occur to me to call someone out of the blue at whatever time is convenient for me (but not necessarily for them).
"There's got to be a better way!!"
As a geek, my inclination is for a technological solution. However, my family is not technologically-minded. So, I'm building a little, super simple to use, cellular-connected device that I'm calling the "Notification Alert Generator Box," or "NAGBox" which provides a simple interface (Physical Buttons!) to request a call from a specific loved one via SMS!
Here are some pics of my progress so far. Started with breadboard, moved to Adafruit perma-proto breadboard, then finally to a consolidated design on the Sparkfun snappable protoboard.
