What’s That? You say you haven’t heard of the BeagleY-AI?
The BeagleY-AI board was launched by BeagleBoard.org during the last week of March 2024, just before Embedded World 2024. The BeagleY-Ai is built upon an industry-standard credit card-sized form factor. It features a 40-pin connector that is compatible with several existing HATs that are out there. The BeagleY-AI also adds 4 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of Edge AI acceleration as well.
This board features the Texas Instruments AM67A ARM-based vision processor, which includes a quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU subsystem at 1.4GHZ along with dual general purpose C7x DSP with MMA (Matrix Multiply Acceleration) capable of 4 TOPs. It also features an ARM Cortex-R5 subsystem for low-latency I/O and control. All of these combined capabilities enable GPU, video, and vision accelerators, as well as other specialized processing.
There are several additional high-speed interfaces on the BeagleY-AI as well. It features a PCI-Express Gen 3 single-lane controller, USB 3.1-Gen1 ports, and Gigabit Ethernet. The BeagleY-Ai also incorporates many other I/O as well. They include 2 MIPI CSI, 4- USB3 (5Gbps) type-A host ports, a USB2 (480 Mbps) type-C device port and power input, the 40-pin expansion header, a fan power and control connector, a 3-pin JST-SH UART connector, and a 10-pin Tag-Connect JTAG header.
For Memory, the BeagleY-AI features 4GB LPDDR4, as well as a microSD card socket. For networking capabilities, the BeagleY-AI features a Beagleboard.org BM3301 module based on the TI CC3301, which allows Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 with BLE (Bluetooth Low-Energy). The BeagleY-AI also allows Gigabit Ethernet with POE+ (power-over-Ethernet) support via an add-on.
With all these remarkable features, you may be wondering, “What is the suggested use for this board?” One suggested use is Smart HMI, which are human-machine interfaces where voice recognition, gesture recognition, or video acceleration is needed. With the familiar 40-pin connector, this board is easy to adapt to existing projects and enables the Edge AI acceleration to bring your projects to the next level. With all of these features, in addition to being fully open source, I suggest looking into BeagleY-AI for your next project.
