These DC-to-DC converters integrate a coil and a control IC in an ultra-small form-factor measuring only 2.5 millimeters by 2.0 millimeters by 1.0 millimeter. Their control method can be selected from fixed, PWM, or PFM/PWM auto switch. Considerably smaller than discrete solutions, these modules—in most cases—occupy less than half the footprint of the same solution employed using discrete components. Designed to operate from a 2.5-volt to 5.5-volt source, such as a Li-ion battery, these converters are able to achieve a high efficiency of 93 percent, typical. They also offer excellent EMI and thermal performance. Ideal applications include battery-powered handheld devices and wearables, UAVs, industrial controls, automation, instrumentation, and more.
