Welcome to First Look, brought to you by Digi-Key and MEAN WELL. The MEAN WELL NMP and UMP series are modular, 1U low profile power supplies. The modularity of these multi-output power supplies lies within their internal design. Most multi-output power supplies utilize an internal structure that can yield inaccurate output voltages on their additional outputs. In the block diagram shown, while V1 has a high accuracy under its closed-loop feedback control, the accuracy of the auxiliary outputs V2 and V3 depends upon the load conditions of the auxiliary and main output. If the main output’s load is different, it can cause the output voltage of the auxiliary circuits to fluctuate. The NMP and UMP series use modular design methodology where a single front-end input and several output modules are implemented. Each output has its own closed loop feedback control without interference with each other. This way, the output modules can be flexibly matched and provide 5, 12, 15 and 24 volt voltages to meet the different voltage and power requirements of the peripheral components within electronic equipment. The UMP series has a special slim, fan-less design that can provide up to 400 watts of output power with up to 4 rails of output voltage provided. It can also be used as a single rail power supply to provide a 24 or 48 volt output voltage. The NMP series can provide either 650 or 1200 watts with output modules that deliver up to 240 watts with adjustable options for the major working voltages in industry. This series has built-in cooling fans. Both the series come with a number of features including a built-in parallel function, remote ON and OFF and more. All the standard protections are offered as well. The NMP and UMP family complies with medical safety approvals and ITE standards making it ideal in medical equipment such as MRIs, CTs, and PET scanners as well as test and measurement, telecommunication, and industrial systems.
