More challenges are being met in industrial applications. Space limitations and BOM control require small sizes of components and compact designs. Extended temperature range is being required in more applications. Easy migration and upgrades are also considered as a key benefit in MCU based system designs. The MSP430FR235x is a series of MCUs from TI added to the MSP430 FRAM MCU family. It integrates signal chain elements including 12-bit ADC, comparator, multiple operational amplifiers, programmable gain amplifier and a digital-to-analog converter that will provide flexibility within a system design. By leveraging smart analog integration, developers can reduce PCB size and BOM cost for sensing and measurement applications. This series of MCUs supports extended operating temperatures of up to 105°C, which allow high temperature industrial applications, such as smoke detectors, sensor transmitters and circuit breakers to benefit from FRAM data logging capabilities. As an extension of MSP430 FRAM Value Line Portfolio, MSP430FR235x MCUs add 32kB of memory with up to 24MHz CPU speed to the family, providing more options for cost-sensitive applications.
