The core of the Si890x devices is a 10-bit ADC. This ADC has +/- 1 Least Significant Bit (LSB) of accuracy for both Integral Non-Linearity (INL) and Differential Non-Linearity (DNL). The full-scale and offset errors are +/- 2 LSB. The input to the ADC has a 3-channel MUX for making multiple measurements with a single device. Reference for the ADC can be provided from two different sources. The most convenient method is to use the supply voltage, VDDA, as the ADC reference. Alternatively, a dedicated external reference can be used with the VREF input. The Si890x family takes advantage of Skyworks Solutions newest generation of 5 kV isolation. This isolation provides high common mode transient immunity (CMTI) and is certified by UL; CSA and VDE are pending. Compared to the competition, Skyworks Solutions isolation has excellent reliability resulting in long working lifetimes. Si890x products are available with different serial interfaces. The Si8900 has a UART interface, the Si8901 is controlled via I²C and the Si8902 has a SPI port. Through configuration registers, the Si890x can be set to either operate in a demand mode where the conversion and resultant data are in response to a request from the master, or in burst mode where the Si890x autonomously makes conversions and delivers data onto the bus.
