Another real world design/application example is shown on this slide featuring both the 9X442SL and 9X440SL being used with the popular Freescale MPC SOC. The application this time is a telecom backhaul for existing CDMA or GSM cellular platforms. The USB 2.0 hubs are used for debug, software upload, KVA, and error logging as part of tower transmitter equipment maintenance. The Freescale MPC family, while popular for CDMA and GSM applications such as this, has no USB 2.0 ports. Pericom has a joint reference design with Freescale for a superset of these type applications. The 9X442 and 9X440 provide the needed USB 2.0 port fanout not provided by the SOC IC.
