Shown here is an example of a typical application for one of the power modules. This is a simple block diagram of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Most PLCs have a 24V power bus that provides power for the different modules in the PLC. In this example, the MAXM17574 provides up to 3A at 5V for the main power bus in the CPU unit. Another module is used to provide the various voltages needed to power the CPU, FPGA, and memory used in the PLC. Also shown is a separate analog I/O module. Those units in the PLC require isolated power supplies for the analog communications block. In that system, an isolated DC/DC converter is required.
