Linear Technology’s LTC4370 is a controller that implements the adjustable-diode method to balance the currents of two diode-ORed supplies. It uses N-channel MOSFETs as the adjustable diodes. There is no adjustment of the supply, therefore supply access is not required. The minimum diode drop is 25mV. The upper limit on the drop is set by the RANGE pin. Thus the RANGE pin determines the supply difference that the LTC4370 can compensate for. The maximum is 600mV. The sharing loop is stabilized by a single capacitor on the COMP pin, its value depends on the MOSFET gate capacitance. Sense resistors set the sharing accuracy. A red LED lights up whenever the supplies are out of sharing range to indicate a break in sharing. The controller is available in compact 16-pin leadless and leaded packages.
