This slide captures thermal performance data collected using the competitor’s solution on the left vs. the Renesas digital multiphase controller paired with the 60 A ISL99227 Smart Power Stage on the right using a FLIR thermal camera. To support testing, a thermal wind tunnel was utilized to collect data at 75°C ambient conditions using 200 LFM airflow. For this analysis, both Renesas and the competing solutions were subject to the same test conditions. A FLIR thermal camera was used to measure controller, SPS, and inductor current information. As evidenced in the thermal images captured, the competing solution must de-rate current by 30% for comparable thermal performance with the Renesas SPS at Tj = 106°C.
