flow chart

The voltage domain for a given application is dictated by the available input voltage. This, coupled with the design requirements for output voltage and maximum output current, narrow the list of available parts. Low dropout voltage is desirable for battery-operated systems, allowing the output voltage to remain within the specified voltage range as the battery continues to discharge. For sensitive analog or RF circuits, the power supply rejection ratio and noise characteristics will be important.
