This slide illustrates the go to markets for each product. The link controller is an MPU/MCU add-on mode. It brings WiFi only to existing Linux/Android-running MPUs through SDIO-to-WiFi interface or existing MCU running a TCP/IP stack. The network controller, however, is a low-end MCU add-on mode. It brings WiFi and network capabilities to existing MCUs through UART or SPI-to-WiFi interface. Finally, the SAMW family is a standalone solution containing both the MCU and the network controller wireless capabilities.
