Their size makes them ideal for space-constrained devices like wearables (people, animals), small asset trackers, portable healthcare systems, remote monitoring, and other IoT applications. The modules are the perfect choice for applications with low to medium data rates and devices that need long battery life.

The module series supports LTE Cat M1 and LTE Cat NB2 technologies based on a comprehensive set of 3GPP Rel. 14 and Rel. 15 features relevant to IoT applications, including improved power consumption, coverage, data rate, and mobility. It is designed for extremely low power consumption in deep-sleep PSM and integrates the u-blox SpotNow Assisted-GPS receiver technology with a dedicated GPS antenna interface.

Position can be estimated via LTE cell station signaling data using CellLocate, eliminating the need for a dedicated GNSS antenna. The LEXI-R520 is compatible with u-blox's MQTT Anywhere and MQTT Flex communication services, where data overhead, time spent on the air, and energy consumption can be reduced, enabling users to extend device life cycles and lower total costs.

The EVK-LEXI-R520-02 evaluation kit is a powerful and easy-to-use tool that simplifies the evaluation of the u-blox LEXI-R520-02B modules. The kit is designed for use with a Windows® PC via the USB interface and requires an activated SIM card (not included). USB drivers can be downloaded from the u-blox website.

The evaluation kit includes three boards:

  • EVB-WL3: contains the power supply and other peripherals for the cellular module
  • ADP-LEXI-R520-02 cellular adapter board: contains the LEXI-R520 cellular module and other connectors
  • ADP-GNSS GNSS adapter board: contains the u-blox MAX-M10S GNSS module, a GNSS antenna connector, and a USB connector for the GNSS module
