The STMPE16M31PX is the latest addition to the S-Touch® family of STMicroelectronics' touch-sense controllers. In line with the existing STMPE16M31, the STMPE16M31PX offers highly flexible and robust capacitive touch-key performance over 16 channels, with the addition of a powerful proximity sensor. The proximity sensing is achieved by increasing the sensitivity of one selected channel among the 16 available, using a dithering technique. The dithering factor is configurable from 4 to 32 x and determines the sensitivity of the proximity sensor. The controller allows proximity sensing up to a distance of 2 inches. All STMPExxM31 touch controllers feature automatic calibration and auto-tuning, high noise immunity and sensitivity, eight independent PWM controllers (that can be routed to one or more of any of the 16 GPIOs) and extremely low current consumption, achieving best in class performance in capacitive touch-key and proximity sensing.
