USB-C Gen1 / Gen2 Re-drivers

USB 3.1, GEN1 operates at 5Gbps, while Gen2 operates at 10Gbps.

When transmitting at high speed data rates like 5Gbps and 10Gbps, FR4 and cables act like low pass filters attenuating (loss) the signal integrity or “eye diagram” of the data stream, to the point where a receiver begins dropping bits resulting in high bit error rates. Re-drivers provide equalization gain to compensate for this attenuation, or loss.

Re-drivers enable longer FR4 trace lengths and, or longer cable lengths with USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2.
