Image of Microchip MCP8027 Gate DriverMicrochip MCP8027 is a 3-phase brushless gate driver with a power module and a typical sleep-mode current of 5 µA. It integrates three half-bridge drivers to drive external NMOS/NMOS transistor pairs configured for a 3-phase BLDC motor. It includes a comparator, a voltage regulator to provide bias to a companion microcontroller, power monitoring comparators, an overtemperature sensor, two level translators, and three operational amplifiers for motor current monitoring.

The MCP8027’s three half-bridge drivers can deliver a peak output current of 0.5 A at 12 V for driving high-side and low-side NMOS MOSFET transistors. These drivers feature shoot-through, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection.

The MCP8027’s buck converter can deliver 750 mW of power to a companion microcontroller, and the buck regulator can be disabled if not needed. The onboard 5 V and 12 V low dropout voltage regulators can deliver 30 mA of current.

The MCP8027 operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C and is available in 40-lead 5 x 5 QFN and 48-lead 7 x 7 TQFP package options.
