DigiKey GmbH Participates in B2Run in Munich Olympic Stadium
I was excited to lead the DigiKey GmbH team out of their office chairs and into their running shoes! That was the motto which moved more than 30,000 people from 1,450 Munich companies to join the 6 km B2Run on 13 July.
All runners, Nordic walkers, and supporters of the DigiKey Team met at the Olympic swim hall close to the BMW-World and BMW-Museum area. Under the best weather conditions and in stylish red running shirts, everyone prepared him or herself in a different way for the B2Run by stretching, doing some push-ups, already running for 15 minutes, or even by going to the lavatory every five minutes.
At 7:30pm, the Munich office started the running for more team spirit and health. Ten minutes before the starting signal, the runners and Nordic walkers found their way to the starting line with thousands of other sports fanatics. Waiting for the green light, seeing all the other attendees in colorful shirts and the music becoming louder and louder made the event more thrilling, and our pulses started to rise.
Due to the huge number of sports-addicted runners, we could only enter the orange starting gate slowly. But we were not there to sprint– we were there to accept the challenge. Every step led us closer to the finish line. Like at DigiKey—we are here for the marathon and not only for a sprint.
Not only did the colorful crowd motivate us to run but so did the drummers beating out their cadence close to the track. Along the run were numerous supportive signs, including one that promised “you will get beer in 2 km (1,2 miles)!” In addition to awards for the fastest times, B2Run also awarded prizes for the most creative teams, so we found ourselves running alongside bottles, dragons and trains.
Once we entered the Olympic hall, we could see the finish line and hear the cheering of the supporters and announcer. We all gathered up our last ounces of strength to cross the finish line as quickly as possible.
Once we regained our breath and were in a state of euphoria, we picked up our medals and climbed the steps to meet the DigiKey supporters.
There was free non-alcoholic beer, fruits, and other supporting stuff given to all the finishers.
What a fabulous atmosphere, a fantastic team event and a great success for everyone!
