The USB Type-C High Power 60W Charger Reference Design adds high power Type-C capabilities to designs. The design negotiates as a source/DFP for up to 60W through the USB Type-C receptacle. It is able to take between 5 and 24 Volts DC and step this up or down to charge a connected device through the Type-C port up to 60W at 20V and 3A. This can be used as a drop down solution or slightly modified to fit application needs. It uses an integrated Power Delivery Controller and MCU to negotiate the power profile and control Power IC. Having the MCU integrated allows for control of other systems as well like buttons, LEDs, switches, pull-ups, pull-downs, and more.
Silicon Labs offers free USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) Stack to assist in building solutions. The Stack offers simple function calls to send PD commands, detect orientation, transition to a sink/source, and more.
