This foot pedal shutter remote is an essential part of my camera toolkit. I can use it to take photos and video of my hands, for tutorials that involve showing two-handed moves. The GH5 remote has a couple of resistors in it, which makes it a touch more complicated to make than for some other camera brands. The switch contact is held high at around 41.1K ohms, and the shutter is triggered when the switch brings it down to around 2.2K ohms. Try to use the resistors you have on hand to approximate the totals-- some deviation will still work.
For this project, you will need:
- Foot pedal switch
- Four-conductor 2.5mm male connector (TRRS)
- Multimeter
- Heat shrink tubing
- Heat gun or lighter
- Eye protection
- Soldering iron and solder
- Wire strippers
- Flush cutters
- Helping third hand tool
- 2.2K (or 2K) ohm resistor
- Resistors to total ~38.9K ohms (see tested combos in the circuit simulator on Tinkercad)
