MFBA Post Show Blog 2019

2019-05-20 | By ASHLEY

As promised, this year’s Maker Faire Bay Area was the “World’s Largest Show and Tell”. It did not disappoint. From the awesome cosplay, drones, prosthesis, and everything in between, there’s something for everyone at Maker Faire.

If you would like to check out the show live stream that was sponsored by DigiKey, check out Saturday here and Sunday here.

Some cool features at every event are the workshops and activities. DigiKey was able to host one of each this year. The workshop garnered a lot of attention and with only 30 spots available it filled up fast. Each participant received a micro:bit and the add-on enviro:bit from Pimoroni, where they even got to meet Pimoroni’s very own Paul Beech! The enviro:bit is a fully assembled board that can sense light, color, temperature, pressure, and humidity.

“Learn to Breadboard” was the theme for the activity we hosted. Users were able to come in and received everything they needed to build a light theremin. The build and everything you need to recreate this circuit can be found on Maker.io/L2B.

One of our favorite new features this year was the augmented reality 2019 Board Guide. Using an Ipad, customers were able to click on certain boards for a closer view, technical specs, and a list of add-on boards. Bringing the Board Guide to life is not only really awesome, but makes choosing a board way easier because it’s almost like having it physically in your hands. Click here to see a video of the Board Guide in action.

Aside from grabbing a Board Guide, hopefully you took the time to have your picture taken in front of our Golden Gate Bridge backdrop to be placed on a unique button as a memento of your time at Maker Faire Bay Area this year. Were you lucky enough to snag an exclusive MFBA2109 version of our handy ruler?

If you stopped by the booth you likely saw our Resident Geek Box Robot, our customized :MOVE mini’s and MeArm’s thanks to our friends over at Kitronik, and hopefully had your chance at our infamous prize garage. Our goal is to make the booth better than the year before, and in my opinion we surpassed that challenge. Thanks to all who had the opportunity to stop by the DigiKey booth this year and those that watched the DigiKey sponsored live stream. I hate to say it, but you’ll just have to wait to see what we come up with for next year! In the meantime, peruse our Maker.io page for some awesome Make’s and see what inspires you. As always, Happy Making!
