L99ASC03 Fully-Integrated Motor Driver IC for Three-Phase Brushless Motors Slide 11

Then the engineer can get the result. From the equation displayed here, the terminal voltage of the floating phase is directly proportional to the back-EMF without any superimposed switching noise. There is no attenuation; actually, it is amplified a little bit. It is also very important that this terminal voltage is directly referred to ground instead of the neutral point. What this means is that the engineer can identify the neutral voltage in the motor just by detecting the terminal voltage on the floating phase.
