The National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association, or NEMA, also publishes protection ratings for enclosures. However, the NEMA ratings also encompass other protective features of enclosures such as corrosion resistance, gasket aging, an construction practices, not addressed in the IP codes. Thus, while it is possible to cite a NEMA level enclosure that is compliant with a specific IP code, it is not possible to specify an IP level that fully addresses the scope of the NEMA construction. The table on this slide illustrates that a NEMA 6 enclosure fully meets the requirements of IP67, and Murata’s DMR20 supports NEMA 6 integrity with respect to ingress of solid objects and water.
