Example Buck Converter (cont’d.)

Shown here in the upper left is the inductance formula for a buck regulator with the maximum input voltage of 36 V, which yields a 40.44 µH inductor at 1 A. Using the KEMET METCOM MPX series listed at the bottom, a designer can use the 47 µH inductor with a saturation current of 2.5 A. The saturation current is defined as 20% decrease in inductance value at a rated current. Looking at the graph in the upper right with an output current of 1 A and an inductance above 40 µH, the designer can use the 47 µH part highlighted.
