This slide presents some basics for the selection of the right IPM. It is not advisable to select IPM based on DC current rating because the switching losses is a major portion of total loss in motor drive application. All IRAMs are rated by RMS phase current which takes into account both conduction and switching losses. The RMS current rating is closer to the actual application condition.
