An IGBT is the device of choice for power conditioning at voltages over 200V, and frequencies lower than 100 kHz. At voltages lower than 200V and frequencies over 100 kHz, the power MOSFET would be a better choice in most applications. Notice IGBTs are presently available with voltage rating of 2 and 3 kV and 500A IGBT modules have been commonly available on the market for many years.
